Projects / Funding

The table below illustrates the contribution the Society makes to the Lickey Hills Country Park. It contains details of major projects undertaken and equipment/materials the Society has funded. It is not an exhaustive list but gives a flavour of our work.

April 2024	Rednal and Tram Information Board	F & P	Members of the Society have produced the information with graphics and composition support from Keith and Simon Woolford of Arch Media. The Society paid for all materials, built  and erected the board near the remaining tram tracks on Lickey Road.
April 2024	3 new wheelbarrows	F	3 wheelbarrows purchased at the Rangers' request
March 2024	2 Additional Tree Poppers	F	£600 cost, £500 of which came from a grant from Lickey and Blackwell Parish Council
July 2023	Picnic Bench	F	The Society purchased a new Recycled plastic picnic table for outside the Visitor Centre, to replace one destroyed by disposable BBQs
June 2023	No BBQs and No Fire signs	F	The Society has purchased 50 signs to be put on the picnic benches, seats and in other prominent locations. It is hoped that these signs will register  with those thinking of using BBQs and consequently, will help to reduce the risk of fires within the Country Park
June 2023	Orienteering signs	F	At the Ranger's request the Society purchased replacement signs for the orienteering course
April 2023	Fruit trees for Community Orchard	F	To mark Coronation of King Charles III two new trees were purchased - a King Charles Pearmain and a May Queen
Mar 2023	Fruit trees for new orchard	F	With the Rotary Club, tree were purchased for the new orchard off the car park near the golf club on Rose Hill
Feb 2023	Anti Slip Strips	F	These were fitted to the main wooden bridges in the country park and were funded from the Murdoch legacy
Dec 2022	Fire Beaters	F	Purchased to help in the event of future wildfires
Sept 2021	Information Boards	F & P	The society funded and helped design the Information or ‘Gateway Boards’  located at four entrances to the Country Park; namely Beacon Hill car park, the Old Rose & Crown, the Fordrough (opposite Barnt Green Station) and the Visitor Centre.  Each board is double sided with a map of the Country Park on one side and information relevant to the particular location on the other. The team was led by Keith Woolford of Arch media and consisted of LHS members and the Rangers
Sept 2021	Litter PIckers	F	Including extra long ones to tackle more inaccessible litter
March 2020	Waymarkers for 'Castle' route	F	Signs to help people find their way o the 'castle' (toposcope) on Beacon Hill
Feb 2020	Picnic Tables	F	Recycled platic picnic tables were purchased for outside the Visitor Centre
Jun 2019	Old Rose and crown Gardens	P	LHS members joined the Tuesday volunteers to clear paths and clean/repair benches in the gardens next to the Old Rose and Crown
March 2019	Rednal Tram Tracks	P	LHS members cleared the remaining tram track, this has been an ongoing project ever since
Dec 2019	Equipment for Rangers	F	Post Hole Borers and tree poppers purchased

Oct 2019	Bike Stands	F	Bike Stands purchased for outside the Visitor Centre and outside the cafe at the duck ponds

April 2017	Walkie Talkies	F	Purchased to help Rangers communicate with each other when out on site

March 2017	'Exploring the Lickey's' Walks Book	F and P	Book launched in March 2017. We tested the walks, amended the text of old walks, wrote text for new walks, worked with Keith Woolford from Arch Media on the final project
Feb 2017	Wildlife Camera	F	Purchased for Lickey School
Jan 2015	Orchard Board	F and P	We designed the board with Keith Woolford from Arch media. The majority of the funding came from the White family, in memory of a loved one, the Society funded the remainder
Apr 2015	Materials for the Rangers	F	Materials purchased to enable repairs of footpaths and bridges
April 2014	Espalier fruit trees	F	For gardens at the Old Rose and Crown
April 2014	Swan Platform	F and P	We purchased the materials and built a swan platform for the duck pond
2013	Boat House	F and P	We purchased the materials and work with the rangers to clean and repair the boat house at the duck ponds
2013	Welcome Boards	F	We paid for the new welcome boards installed at each major entrance to the Country Park (£9,000)
2013	Bat Detectors	F	Purchased to support the Rangers' 'Bat Nights'
2013	Way Markers	F	Purchased to guide walkers on the main trails within the country park
2012	Walks Book	F and P	'Lickey Hills Country Park - Great Walks' book. We tested the walks, amended the text of old walks, wrote text for new walks, worked with Keith Woolford from Arch Media on the final project
